The Fellows in Yellow

It's a fire... fighter! We're joined by North View Fire officionado Jay Johnson to talk about how the district works, what your taxes do, and how they're working to keep things as efficient as possible. Plus, we make a pitch for our new Patreon account that will be 100% dedicated to supporting local journalism. And, as always, Pinkies Up, Thumbs Down and Upcoming events.

You Used to Be Cool: What Happened to Local Journalism in Weber County?

Weber county used to have a vibrant local newspaper in the Standard-Examiner, keeping the county informed and investigating those who work for us (i.e. elected officials). But, with the change in the news is produced, our once great newspaper has suffered from declining profits and layoffs that make it more and more difficult for journalists to dig down deep in to the news of the day.

The Kiesel Building at the corner of Kiesel Ave. and 24th Street was once the home of the Standard-Examiner.

We decided to do something about it here at JCP and launched a Patreon channel this week where 100% of the money donated goes toward paying journalists to investigate and write news stories that continue to keep our elected officials accountable.

Jay Johnson, North View Fire District

One of our favorite parts of doing the pod is meeting new people who play a vital role in the community and want to come on to tell their story. Fellow JCPeep, Meg Sanders, introduced us to Jay recently and we really wanted to know how fire services in North Ogden, Pleasant View, and Harrisville work.

Below is the the link to North View's website, where you can learn more about them:
